Origin Story
The story was started in the spring of 2023. I was sitting with my friend at the cafe near the Burj Khalifa. My friend was melancholically flipping a “The Rolling Stones” coin in his hand.
“Why can’t we do something like this?” he asked. “Look, it’s minted in the Royal Mint with the British queen on the reverse. How can you combine rock-and-roll and the queen?”
“The Aquarium?” If we try to mint a coin dedicated to the band, it was obvious choice for me.
“Of course. I can’t think of anything else…”
This was the beginning of an exciting journey. Meeting the most creative people, liaising between the beautiful band designer and the conservative minting company, learning about metals and manufacturing processes – all became a part of my story.
Results
And now you have the chance to own a piece of Aquarium history. The coin is inspired by Aquarium and dedicated to their Radio Africa album. The obverse replicates the album cover in 3D, and you won’t find any state symbol on the reverse, but the Aquarium tree. Each coin is individually numbered from 1 to 1983. All coins are minted from 999 fine silver in New York, USA. The coins with numbers 001-1959 have a unique antique finish, while the “new era” coins numbered 1960-1983 have a proof finish.
